The members of Trump’s Cabinet have various ideologies hidden behind the slogan of ‘America First’. Some nominees seem driven by a desire for revenge, others are focusing on stabilizing the markets, and another group is determined to cut down on both staff and budgets, though this may be a challenging task.

David E. Sanger has reported on the activities of five different American presidents during his extensive career spanning over four decades at The New York Times.

Before taking office, President-elect Donald J. Trump made his last selections for cabinet positions and other roles in his administration. His team claimed that these choices created a united, loyal government driven by the principles of "Make America Great Again." However, upon closer examination, it becomes clear that there are at least three different groups with varying beliefs and ideas, which have been kept under control in order to navigate the confirmation process.

A group of individuals seeking revenge, led by potential nominees, have been given orders to dismantle the Justice Department, intelligence agencies, and Defense Department. Their goal is to target the so-called deep state and all those involved in prosecuting Mr. Trump.

Mr. Trump has formed a team to stabilize the markets, with Scott Bessent potentially leading it. Bessent, a billionaire from Wall Street chosen by Trump for Treasury secretary, supports deregulation and lower taxes. However, he may work to prevent Trump’s more radical ideas, such as imposing tariffs that could cause inflation and disrupt the post-election stock market growth.

A government reduction team, headed by Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy, has ambitious goals to significantly decrease the annual federal budget by at least $2 trillion. This amount is more than the total salaries of all federal employees combined. Just to note, the federal budget in the 2024 fiscal year was $6.75 trillion.

One of the major uncertainties for the new administration is how these missions will come together and potentially clash.

Having a variety of different beliefs and opinions is typically viewed as a positive aspect rather than a negative one when it comes to presidential cabinets. However, what stands out about President Trump’s recent cabinet choices is the diverse backgrounds and perspectives that are sometimes hidden beneath their outward loyalty to the "Make America Great Again" slogan and to Trump himself. Some of his picks may not fit in well at a Trump rally.
