Marvin Scott typically arrives at the airport around 45 minutes before his flights, but on Wednesday, he showed up at Kennedy International Airport in New York two hours ahead of time. He was aware that experts had cautioned that this Thanksgiving travel week was expected to be the busiest on record.
As he made his way towards the gates for his flight to Puerto Rico, he was happy to see a peaceful atmosphere. "I need to decide on my next steps now," he thought to himself.
During Thanksgiving, the United States experiences a surge in travel across rail, road, and air routes, making it one of the busiest times of the year for transportation. It is predicted that this year will see a new record in travel volume.
The Transportation Security Administration anticipates screening 18.3 million travelers from Tuesday to Monday, which is a 6 percent increase from the previous year. AAA predicts a record number of travelers, with nearly 72 million motorists expected to be on the roads.
Adverse weather conditions in different regions of the United States posed a threat to travel plans. The Midwest was bracing for a wind chill, while the South and Northeast were anticipating a cold, rainy storm. There was also a chance of snow in certain areas of the Northeast.
Meteorologists have issued warnings for winter storms in certain areas of Colorado and Utah, predicting heavy snowfall that may create challenging or even dangerous travel conditions. Over 500 flights at Denver International Airport were delayed due to the snowstorm passing through the region on Wednesday, as reported by FlightAware.
