Hamas is finding itself in a difficult situation as its key ally, Hezbollah, is being targeted by Israel. The conflict in Lebanon has also forced a ceasefire, further isolating Hamas.

Over the past year, the journalists have published many articles discussing peace talks to end the conflict in Gaza.

Hamas has always thought that a larger conflict in the Middle East would give them an advantage in their battle against Israel.

However, the agreement to end the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah has undermined Hamas’s strategy, as it could lead to the loss of their key ally in the conflict, as stated by U.S. officials.

The Biden administration has made progress with an agreement aimed at reducing conflict and putting pressure on Hamas to negotiate with Israel and free the hostages in Gaza.

Prior to the announcement of the cease-fire in Lebanon on Tuesday, Palestinian and American officials expressed their belief that Hamas’s political leaders were willing to negotiate and move away from the strategy set by their deceased leader, Yahya Sinwar, who was killed by Israeli forces the previous month.

Following an attack by Hamas on Israel on October 7, 2023, Mr. Sinwar’s main goal was to defeat Israel by involving it in a large-scale war with Hezbollah and Iran. According to U.S. officials, as long as this strategy seemed feasible, Mr. Sinwar would prevent any agreements for a cease-fire.
