Stay informed on the most recent developments regarding President-elect Trump’s transition process.

Kevin Hassett was chosen by President-elect Donald J. Trump to lead the White House National Economic Council. Hassett, who previously served as Trump’s chief economist in his first term, will now have a key role in shaping the administration’s economic policies.

In his position as the head of the National Economic Council, Mr. Hassett will collaborate closely with the Treasury secretary to advance President Trump’s economic agenda, which includes reducing taxes, implementing higher tariffs, and growing the energy sector. This role is highly influential within the government and will place Mr. Hassett at the forefront of key policy discussions.

In a statement, Mr. Trump expressed that the individual will have a significant impact on assisting American families in recovering from inflation caused by the Biden Administration. He also mentioned working together to enhance tax cuts and establish fair trade with countries that have exploited the United States in the past.

Donald Trump has been completing his economic team by selecting Scott Bessent to lead the Treasury Department and Howard Lutnick, the ex-CEO of Cantor Fitzgerald, to head the Commerce Department. Unlike the N.E.C. director role, these positions need to be approved by the Senate.

Mr. Trump chose Jamieson Greer, a lawyer who previously worked for him, to be in charge of the Office of the United States Trade Representative.

Mr. Greer works as a partner specializing in international trade at the law firm King & Spalding. In the first term of Mr. Trump’s presidency, he held the position of chief of staff to Robert E. Lighthizer, who was the trade representative at the time. He played a role in the trade talks between the Trump administration and China, as well as the reworking of NAFTA with Canada and Mexico.
