In the realm of politics, there is a phenomenon known as the Vice-Presidential Curse, which refers to the difficulties faced by current vice presidents when running for president. These candidates tend to have a history of performing poorly in elections

Hello, this evening my colleague Ian Prasad Philbrick will explore the challenges that sitting vice presidents face when trying to follow in their boss’s footsteps. I will return on Wednesday. – Jess Bidgood
The most recent development involves Jack Smith, who is the special counsel, deciding to drop the criminal charges against President-elect Donald Trump. This decision was made based on a Justice Department policy that prohibits the prosecution of presidents who are currently in office.
After stepping down from Senate leadership, Mitch McConnell may find himself at odds with Trump regarding foreign policy decisions and appointments within the administration. McConnell has expressed a sense of freedom since leaving his leadership position.
Natalie Harp, a 33-year-old individual who worked for Trump and used to be a far-right news presenter, is responsible for providing positive articles and social media posts to Trump by carrying a printer. She is expected to continue working for him in the White House.
President Biden granted clemency to two Thanksgiving turkeys named Peach and Blossom, which were named after Delaware’s official flower. This was the final time he would do so during his presidency.
There were multiple reasons why Vice President Kamala Harris did not win the presidential election in 2024, and one potential factor could be her position as Vice President.
Throughout history, it has been rare for sitting vice presidents to successfully become president after their term. In the past century, only five vice presidents have been chosen as their party’s nominee for president. Out of those five, only George H.W. Bush in 1988 was able to win the presidency. Before Bush, the last vice president to directly follow and be elected as president was Martin Van Buren in 1836.
Vice presidents who are currently serving and running for president have specific obstacles to overcome. They have to navigate a delicate balance between supporting the current president and creating their own identity. They need to take credit for the accomplishments of the administration they are a part of, while also being held accountable for any shortcomings. Despite being in a secondary position, they must demonstrate their readiness for the highest office. All of this is done under the scrutiny of their boss, who is considered one of the most influential individuals in the world.
The challenges that frustrated Harris and those before her are a hindrance that could also impact the future political aspirations of Vice President-elect JD Vance.
Presidents who were not well-liked
During his campaign for president in 1968 against Richard Nixon, Vice President Hubert Humphrey faced challenges related to the Vietnam War and his relationship with President Lyndon Johnson.
