Charles Romer, a former executive in the oil industry from Scarsdale, New York, and his wife, Catherine, were on their way back from their winter residence in Florida in the year 1980 when they decided to take a break at a Holiday Inn in the state of Georgia.

At a later time, the police discovered the couple’s belongings in a hotel room, along with some alcohol and glasses. The bed had been prepared for sleeping. However, the couple, along with their new black Lincoln Continental car, were missing.

For many years, no one knew what happened to the couple who went missing. Their family members tried to find out what happened. The police thought that the couple might have been murdered during a robbery because Ms. Romer, who was well-liked in society, had expensive jewelry with her.

Recently, progress was made in a long-standing case that has lasted for over forty years. Volunteer divers discovered a vehicle resembling the one belonging to the Romers submerged in a pond near their hotel in Brunswick, Ga., which is located approximately 75 miles south of Savannah.

Divers were using sonar technology to locate sunken vehicles in order to search for missing individuals. They came across the Romer case on a list of unsolved cases involving people who had gone missing with their cars. They began scanning all bodies of water near the hotel where the couple was last seen on Friday. In a pond that was 10 feet deep near the Royal Inn parking lot, they discovered a vehicle that matched the description of the Romers’ car, and inside were human remains.

Lawton J. Dodd, a spokesperson for the Glynn County Police Department in Georgia, described the sudden development as unexpected. He mentioned that a previously unsolved case has now been reexamined and is no longer considered cold. The investigation has been reopened.
