President Biden visited Nantucket for the last time during his term, making his typical rounds and thanking people for advancements in peace in the Middle East while encouraging Americans to remain optimistic.

Writing from Nantucket, Massachusetts.
On Thursday morning, the president and first lady in Massachusetts carried out their usual Thanksgiving tradition of delivering pumpkin pies to first responders on Nantucket. They also made phone calls to members of the military, keeping up a family custom that dates back to 1975.
During a rainy day on Thursday, many residents stayed indoors on the island. President Biden, however, seemed happy as he visited the Nantucket fire station. He greeted the officers on duty, exchanged baseball caps with them, and showed his grandson Beau around the station.
The president spent a significant amount of time discussing the current political atmosphere in the United States, encouraging Americans to stay true to their values, avoid pessimistic stories, and be mindful of the news they consume.
Mr. Biden commented on recent surveys showing that most Americans are worried about the country’s direction. He thinks this is because people are turning away from traditional news sources and hearing too many negative opinions on TV.
He suggested that the reason for that could be the lack of positive news on television.
Despite urging Americans to stay positive during uncertain times, the president also acknowledged that President-elect Donald J. Trump may encounter obstacles in the future. He suggested that Congress may push Mr. Trump to adjust some of his plans and subtly criticized some of his successor’s recent ideas.
