Writing from the location of Nantucket, Massachusetts.

On Thursday morning, the president and first lady visited Massachusetts for their usual Thanksgiving routine. They brought pumpkin pies to police officers, firefighters, and medics on Nantucket, and also called members of the armed services. This tradition has been carried out by their family since 1975.

During a rainy day on the island, President Biden visited the Nantucket fire station and interacted with the officers on duty, smiling and exchanging baseball caps with them. He also brought his grandson Beau along for the visit.

The president thought deeply about the current political atmosphere in the United States, encouraging Americans to stay true to their values, avoid overly pessimistic views, and be mindful of where they get their news from.

After looking at recent polls that show many Americans are worried about the country’s direction, Mr. Biden stated that he thinks this is due to fewer people watching traditional news sources and the negative news coverage on TV.

He suggested that the lack of good news on television may be the reason for that.

Despite urging Americans to stay positive during uncertain times, the president still acknowledged challenges that President-elect Donald J. Trump may face in the future. He mentioned that Congress may require Mr. Trump to make adjustments to his plans and also made mild critiques of some of his successor’s recent ideas.
