Writing from the location of Nantucket, Massachusetts.
On Thursday morning, the president and the first lady visited Massachusetts for Thanksgiving as they usually do. They handed out pumpkin pies to first responders on Nantucket and thanked members of the military over the phone. This has been a tradition for their family since 1975.
During a rainy day on the island, President Biden visited the Nantucket fire station and greeted the officers on duty. He smiled, shook hands, and exchanged baseball caps with them, all while showing his grandson Beau around the station.
The president spent some time thinking about the current political atmosphere in the United States, encouraging Americans to stay true to their values, avoid pessimistic stories, and be mindful of what news they consume.
Mr. Biden recently commented on how many Americans are worried about the country’s direction, attributing this concern to the decreasing viewership of traditional news sources and negative assessments on television.
He suggested that the reason for this might be because when you watch television, you are often exposed to a lot of negative news rather than positive news.
Despite encouraging Americans to stay positive during uncertain times, the president acknowledged that President-elect Donald J. Trump may face challenges in the future. He suggested that Congress might push Trump to adjust some of his plans and also expressed some disagreement with Trump’s recent ideas.
