Mark Zuckerberg had a meeting with President-elect Donald J. Trump on Wednesday, which was a rare occasion where they met in person. This meeting was part of Mark Zuckerberg’s efforts to build a good relationship with Mr. Trump.
Three individuals familiar with the situation have verified that the meeting was arranged by Mr. Zuckerberg, who has had a tense relationship with Mr. Trump for the last ten years. Mr. Trump, who has consistently claimed that Meta has unfairly limited him and other conservatives on its social media platforms, has publicly criticized Mr. Zuckerberg on social media and during public speeches.
On Tuesday evening, Mark Zuckerberg arrived in West Palm Beach, Florida before meeting with Donald Trump at his hotel and club, Mar-a-Lago, on Wednesday. Sources, who wished to remain anonymous, reported that the two men had a friendly conversation, with Zuckerberg congratulating Trump on his presidential victory.
Following a meeting in the early afternoon, it was arranged that Mr. Trump and Mr. Zuckerberg would have dinner together at Mr. Trump’s hotel later that same evening.
A Meta spokesperson expressed the significance of the current moment for American innovation. They mentioned that Mark was thankful for the chance to have dinner with President Trump and discuss the incoming administration with his team.
However, Mr. Zuckerberg is reaching out to the incoming administration in an attempt to protect Meta, the company that owns Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, from any negative consequences. Meta has faced criticism from conservatives in Washington who believe the platform censors conservative views. Former President Trump has even called for Mr. Zuckerberg to be imprisoned for allegedly conspiring against him during the 2020 election.
