On Wednesday, Mark Zuckerberg had a meeting with President-elect Donald J. Trump in a rare in-person meeting. This meeting was part of Zuckerberg’s efforts to build a good relationship with Trump.

According to three sources familiar with the situation, Mr. Zuckerberg arranged a meeting with Mr. Trump, despite their rocky relationship in recent years. Mr. Trump has accused Meta of unfairly censoring conservative voices on its platforms, leading to public criticisms of Mr. Zuckerberg both online and at public events.

Mark Zuckerberg arrived in West Palm Beach, Florida on Tuesday evening and met with Donald Trump at his hotel and club, Mar-a-Lago, the following day. The meeting was reported by anonymous sources who were not allowed to discuss it. During the meeting, Zuckerberg and Trump exchanged friendly greetings, with Zuckerberg congratulating Trump on his presidential victory.

Following a meeting in the early afternoon, it was reported that Mr. Trump and Mr. Zuckerberg decided to have dinner together at Mr. Trump’s hotel that same evening.

A spokesperson from Meta expressed the significance of this moment for American innovation. They mentioned that Mark Zuckerberg appreciated the chance to dine with President Trump and discuss the upcoming administration with his team members.

However, Mr. Zuckerberg is making efforts to protect Meta, the parent company of Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, from any negative consequences that may arise from the new administration. Meta has faced criticism from conservatives in Washington who believe there is censorship of conservative perspectives. Former President Trump has even suggested that Mr. Zuckerberg should be imprisoned for allegedly working against him in the 2020 election.
