Mark Zuckerberg had a meeting with President-elect Donald J. Trump on Wednesday, which was a rare occasion for them to meet in person. This meeting was part of Zuckerberg’s efforts to build a good relationship with Mr. Trump.

According to three individuals familiar with the situation, Mr. Zuckerberg arranged a meeting with Mr. Trump, despite their strained relationship in recent years. Mr. Trump has criticized Meta for allegedly limiting conservative voices on its social media platforms, and has publicly attacked Mr. Zuckerberg on social media and during public speeches.

On Tuesday evening, Mark Zuckerberg flew into West Palm Beach, Florida, before meeting with Donald Trump at his hotel and club, Mar-a-Lago, on Wednesday. Sources, who requested anonymity, shared that the meeting was cordial, with Zuckerberg congratulating Trump on his election victory.

Following a meeting in the early afternoon, it was reported that Mr. Trump and Mr. Zuckerberg had made plans to have dinner together at Mr. Trump’s hotel later in the evening.

A representative from Meta stated that this is a crucial moment for the future of innovation in America. They mentioned that Mark was appreciative of being invited to have dinner with President Trump and to meet with members of his team to discuss the upcoming administration.

However, Mr. Zuckerberg is reaching out to others while trying to protect Meta, the company that owns Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, from any backlash that may come from the new administration. Meta has been a frequent target of conservatives in Washington, with some members of Congress wanting to limit what they view as censorship of conservative opinions. Additionally, Mr. Trump has gone as far as to demand Mr. Zuckerberg be imprisoned for allegedly working against him during the 2020 election.
