President Biden visited Nantucket for the last time during his term, stopping at his usual locations to thank everyone for their efforts in achieving peace in the Middle East and encouraging Americans to remain optimistic.

Writing from the town of Nantucket, located in Massachusetts

On Thursday morning, the president and first lady visited Massachusetts as part of their usual Thanksgiving routine. They handed out pumpkin pies to police officers, firefighters, and medics on Nantucket and also made phone calls to members of the armed services. This tradition has been carried out by their family since 1975.

During heavy rain on Thursday, the majority of residents stayed indoors, but President Biden seemed cheerful as he visited the Nantucket fire station. He greeted and exchanged baseball caps with the officers on duty while guiding his grandson Beau through the building.

The president thought about the current political atmosphere in the United States and encouraged Americans to stay true to their values, avoid pessimistic stories, and be mindful of what news they are consuming.

After considering recent public opinion surveys showing that most Americans are worried about the country’s direction, Mr. Biden thinks this is because fewer people are turning to traditional news sources and TV news tends to focus on negative news.

He suggested that the reason for this is because when you watch television, you are often exposed to a lot of negative news and not much positive news.

Despite urging Americans to stay positive during uncertain times, the president acknowledged that President-elect Donald J. Trump may face challenges ahead. He suggested that Congress may require Mr. Trump to adjust some of his plans and also expressed mild disapproval of some of the new ideas proposed by his successor.
