President Biden visited Nantucket for the last time during his term, visiting his usual spots and thanking the progress made towards peace in the Middle East. He also encouraged Americans to remain optimistic.

Writing from Nantucket, Massachusetts.
On Thursday morning, the president and first lady in Massachusetts visited police officers, firefighters, and medics on Nantucket to give them pumpkin pies for Thanksgiving. They also called members of the armed services as part of a family tradition they have been doing since 1975.
During a rainy day on Thursday, many people stayed indoors on the island. However, President Biden seemed cheerful as he visited the Nantucket fire station. He greeted and exchanged baseball caps with the on-duty officers, all while walking with his grandson Beau.
The president thought deeply about the current political atmosphere in the United States, encouraging Americans to stay true to their values, avoid pessimistic stories, and be mindful of the news they consume.
Mr. Biden commented on recent public opinion surveys that indicated many Americans are worried about the state of the country. He suggested that this could be due to fewer people relying on traditional news sources and the negative tone often seen on TV.
He suggested that the reason for that could be the lack of good news on television.
Despite promoting a message of hope during uncertain times, the president acknowledged that President-elect Donald J. Trump may face challenges ahead. He suggested that Congress may push for some of Mr. Trump’s proposals to be adjusted and also made some subtle criticisms of his successor’s recent ideas.
