On Thursday morning, the president and first lady visited Massachusetts for Thanksgiving. They handed out pumpkin pies to police officers, firefighters, and medics on Nantucket. They also spoke with members of the armed services, continuing a family tradition that began in 1975.

During a rainy day on Thursday, many people stayed indoors on the island. However, President Biden seemed happy as he visited the Nantucket fire station. He greeted and exchanged baseball caps with the on-duty officers while showing his grandson Beau around the building.

The president thought about the current political atmosphere in the United States for a while, advising Americans to stay true to their values, avoid pessimistic stories, and carefully choose where they get their news from.

President Biden commented on recent polls showing that most Americans are worried about the country’s direction. He believes this is due to fewer people following traditional news outlets and the negative tone of TV news coverage.

He suggested that the reason for this may be because when you watch television, you are often exposed to a lot of negative news rather than positive news.

Despite advising Americans to stay positive during uncertain times, the president acknowledged that there may be challenges ahead for President-elect Donald J. Trump. He foresaw the possibility that Mr. Trump could face pressure from Congress to adjust some of his plans, and also expressed mild disapproval of some of his successor’s recent suggestions.
