President Biden made one last trip to Nantucket before the end of his term. During his visit, he visited the usual spots and thanked those involved in advancing peace in the Middle East. He also encouraged Americans to remain optimistic.

Writing from the location of Nantucket, Massachusetts.

The president and first lady visited various first responders in Massachusetts on Thanksgiving morning, handing out pumpkin pies to police officers, firefighters, and medics on Nantucket. They also made phone calls to members of the armed services, carrying on a family tradition that dates back to 1975.

During a rainy day on Nantucket, many people stayed indoors, but President Biden visited the local fire station. He greeted the officers on duty, exchanged baseball caps, and walked through the building with his grandson Beau. Biden seemed happy during the visit.

The president thought deeply about the current political atmosphere in the United States and encouraged Americans to stay true to their values, avoid pessimistic narratives, and be mindful of the news they consume.

After looking at recent public opinion surveys that show most Americans are worried about the country’s direction, Mr. Biden mentioned that he thinks this is because fewer people are tuning into traditional news sources and because TV news tends to focus on negative assessments.

"I believe there is a reason for that," he stated. "When you watch television, you are not often presented with positive news stories."

Despite urging Americans to stay positive in uncertain times, the president acknowledged that President-elect Donald J. Trump may encounter obstacles in the future. He suggested that Congress might push for changes to some of Mr. Trump’s plans and also lightly criticized some of the new ideas put forth by his successor.
