President Biden visited Nantucket for the last time during his term, stopping at his usual locations to thank everyone for their efforts in achieving peace in the Middle East and to encourage Americans to remain optimistic.

Writing from Nantucket, Massachusetts.

On Thursday morning, the president and the first lady visited Massachusetts as they do every Thanksgiving, giving pumpkin pies to police officers, firefighters, and medics on Nantucket. They also called members of the armed services, carrying on a family tradition that started in 1975.

During a rainy day on Thursday, many people stayed inside to seek shelter from the weather. However, President Biden decided to visit the Nantucket fire station, where he greeted and interacted with the officers on duty. He was seen smiling as he walked in with his grandson Beau, exchanging baseball caps with the firefighters.

The president spent a significant amount of time discussing the current political atmosphere in the United States, encouraging citizens to stay true to their values, avoid pessimistic viewpoints, and be mindful of the news sources they follow.

After analyzing recent polls showing that most Americans are worried about the country’s direction, Mr. Biden suggested that this may be due to a decline in viewership for traditional news outlets and the negative outlook often portrayed on television.

He suggested that the reason for this might be the lack of positive news on television.

Despite his call for optimism, the president acknowledged that President-elect Donald J. Trump may face challenges ahead. He suggested that Congress may push Mr. Trump to adjust some of his plans and also expressed some concerns about the new ideas proposed by his successor.
