On Wednesday, Mark Zuckerberg had a meeting with President-elect Donald J. Trump in a rare in-person meeting. This was part of Zuckerberg’s efforts to build a good relationship with Trump.

According to three sources, a meeting was scheduled by Mr. Zuckerberg, who has had a tense relationship with Mr. Trump for the last ten years. Mr. Trump believes that Meta has been unfairly limiting him and other conservative voices on its social media platforms, and has criticized Mr. Zuckerberg publicly on social media and during his speeches.

On Tuesday evening, Mr. Zuckerberg arrived in West Palm Beach, Florida before meeting with Mr. Trump at his hotel and club, Mar-a-Lago, the following day. The individuals who shared this information did so anonymously due to not being allowed to discuss the meeting. During their meeting, Mr. Zuckerberg congratulated Mr. Trump on his election victory and they mostly exchanged polite greetings.

Following their meeting in the early afternoon, Mr. Trump and Mr. Zuckerberg arranged to have dinner at Mr. Trump’s hotel later that same evening, according to sources.

A representative from Meta stated that this is a crucial moment for the advancement of American innovation. They mentioned that Mark Zuckerberg was thankful for the chance to have dinner with President Trump and discuss the incoming administration with members of his team.

Mr. Zuckerberg is making efforts to protect Meta, the company that owns Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, from any negative consequences from the new administration. Meta has been a focus for conservative critics in Washington who believe there is censorship of conservative opinions. Former President Trump has even suggested that Mr. Zuckerberg should be imprisoned for allegedly working against him during the 2020 election.
