Mark Zuckerberg had a meeting with President-elect Donald J. Trump on Wednesday, which was a rare in-person meeting. This meeting was part of Zuckerberg’s efforts to build a good relationship with Trump.
Three individuals who are informed about the situation have confirmed that a meeting took place between Mr. Zuckerberg and Mr. Trump. Mr. Zuckerberg was the one who initiated the meeting, despite having a tense relationship with Mr. Trump for the last ten years. Mr. Trump has criticized Meta for supposedly restricting him and other conservatives on its social media platforms, often making public attacks against Mr. Zuckerberg on social media and during his speeches.
On Tuesday evening, Mr. Zuckerberg arrived in West Palm Beach, Florida before meeting with Mr. Trump at his hotel, Mar-a-Lago, the following day. Sources who were not allowed to discuss the meeting revealed that the two men exchanged greetings, with Mr. Zuckerberg congratulating Mr. Trump on his presidential victory.
Following a meeting in the early afternoon, Mr. Trump and Mr. Zuckerberg decided to have dinner together at Mr. Trump’s hotel later that evening, according to sources.
A representative from Meta stated that this is a crucial time for the advancement of American innovation. They mentioned that Mark was thankful for being invited to have dinner with President Trump and for the chance to discuss the upcoming administration with members of his team.
However, Mr. Zuckerberg is making efforts to protect Meta, the company that owns Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, from facing any consequences from the new government. Meta has been under scrutiny from conservative politicians in Washington, with some accusing the company of censoring conservative opinions. Additionally, former President Trump has publicly demanded for Mr. Zuckerberg to be imprisoned for allegedly conspiring against him during the 2020 election.
