Mark Zuckerberg had a meeting with President-elect Donald J. Trump on Wednesday, which was a rare in-person meeting. This meeting was part of Mark Zuckerberg’s efforts to build a good relationship with Mr. Trump.
Three individuals familiar with the situation reported that a meeting took place between Mr. Zuckerberg and Mr. Trump. The meeting was arranged by Mr. Zuckerberg, despite a historically strained relationship between the two. Mr. Trump has accused Meta of unfairly limiting his and other conservatives’ presence on their social media platforms, leading to public criticism of Mr. Zuckerberg both online and in public appearances.
On Tuesday evening, Mark Zuckerberg arrived in West Palm Beach, Florida before meeting up with Donald Trump at his hotel and club, Mar-a-Lago, on Wednesday. According to sources who requested anonymity, the two men had a cordial meeting where Zuckerberg congratulated Trump on his presidential victory.
Following the meeting in the early afternoon, Mr. Trump and Mr. Zuckerberg arranged to have dinner at Mr. Trump’s hotel later that same evening, according to sources.
A spokesperson from Meta expressed that this is a crucial moment for the advancement of American innovation. They mentioned that Mark Zuckerberg was appreciative of the chance to have dinner with President Trump and discuss the upcoming administration with his team.
Mr. Zuckerberg is trying to protect Meta, the company that owns Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, from possible problems with the new government. Conservatives in Washington have criticized Meta for censoring conservative opinions. Some members of Congress want to limit this censorship.
