On Wednesday, Mark Zuckerberg had a meeting with President-elect Donald J. Trump in a rare in-person meeting. This was part of Zuckerberg’s efforts to build a good relationship with Trump.

According to three sources familiar with the situation, Mr. Zuckerberg arranged a meeting with Mr. Trump, despite their strained relationship in recent years. Mr. Trump has consistently accused Meta of censoring him and other conservatives on its social media platforms, criticizing Mr. Zuckerberg publicly both online and in public appearances.

On Tuesday evening, Mr. Zuckerberg arrived in West Palm Beach, Florida before meeting with Mr. Trump at his hotel and club, Mar-a-Lago, on Wednesday. The information was shared by anonymous sources who were not allowed to talk about the meeting. During the meeting, Mr. Zuckerberg congratulated Mr. Trump on his presidential victory and they mainly exchanged friendly greetings.

Following a meeting in the early afternoon, Mr. Trump and Mr. Zuckerberg made arrangements to dine together at Mr. Trump’s hotel later that same evening, according to sources.

A spokesperson from Meta expressed the significance of this moment for American innovation. They mentioned that Mark was thankful for being invited to have dinner with President Trump and to discuss the upcoming administration with members of his team.

However, Mr. Zuckerberg is reaching out to the incoming administration in an effort to protect Meta, the parent company of Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, from facing any negative consequences. Meta has faced criticism from conservatives in Washington who believe the company censors conservative viewpoints. Former President Trump has even advocated for Mr. Zuckerberg to be imprisoned for allegedly conspiring against him during the 2020 election.
