Mark Zuckerberg had a meeting with President-elect Donald J. Trump on Wednesday in a rare in-person meeting, as part of his efforts to build a good relationship with Mr. Trump.

Three sources confirmed that a meeting took place between Mr. Zuckerberg and Mr. Trump, which was initiated by Mr. Zuckerberg. The two have had a tense relationship for the last ten years. Mr. Trump has accused Meta of unfairly limiting him and other conservatives on its platforms, and has publicly criticized Mr. Zuckerberg on social media and at public events.

On Tuesday evening, Mark Zuckerberg arrived in West Palm Beach, Florida before meeting with Donald Trump at his hotel and club, Mar-a-Lago, on Wednesday. Sources who were not allowed to disclose information mentioned that the conversation between the two men mainly consisted of friendly exchanges, with Zuckerberg congratulating Trump on his presidential victory.

Following their meeting in the early afternoon, Mr. Trump and Mr. Zuckerberg decided to have dinner together at Mr. Trump’s hotel later that same evening, according to sources.

A representative from Meta stated that it is a crucial period for American innovation. They mentioned that Mark was appreciative of the chance to have dinner with President Trump and to discuss the upcoming administration with members of his team.

Mr. Zuckerberg is reaching out to the incoming administration to protect Meta, the company that owns Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, from facing any consequences. Meta has been under scrutiny from conservatives in Washington for allegedly censoring conservative views. Former President Trump has even suggested that Mr. Zuckerberg should be jailed for allegedly going against him during the 2020 election.
