Mark Zuckerberg had a meeting with President-elect Donald J. Trump on Wednesday, which is not a common occurrence. This meeting was part of Zuckerberg’s ongoing efforts to build a positive relationship with Trump.
According to three sources, a meeting between Mr. Zuckerberg and Mr. Trump was arranged, with Mr. Zuckerberg initiating the conversation. The two have had a tense relationship for the past ten years. Mr. Trump has criticized Meta for allegedly suppressing conservative voices on its social media platforms, often targeting Mr. Zuckerberg in his social media posts and public speeches.
On Tuesday evening, Mr. Zuckerberg arrived in West Palm Beach, Florida, before meeting with Mr. Trump at his Mar-a-Lago hotel and club the following day. The information was shared by anonymous sources who were not allowed to talk about the meeting. During their interaction, Zuckerberg praised Trump for his presidential victory.
Following their meeting in the early afternoon, it was arranged that Mr. Trump and Mr. Zuckerberg would dine together at Mr. Trump’s hotel later that evening. This information was shared by individuals familiar with the situation.
A spokesperson for Meta expressed the significance of the current period for American innovation. They mentioned that Mark was appreciative of the chance to have dinner with President Trump and discuss the new administration with his team members.
However, Mr. Zuckerberg is trying to protect Meta, the company that owns Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, from any negative consequences that may come from the new administration. Meta has been under fire from conservatives in Washington who believe that conservative viewpoints are being censored. Additionally, former President Trump has accused Mr. Zuckerberg of plotting against him during the 2020 election and has even called for him to be jailed.
