Mark Zuckerberg had a meeting with President-elect Donald J. Trump on Wednesday, marking a rare occasion where they met in person. This meeting was part of Zuckerberg’s efforts to build a good relationship with Trump.
According to three sources, there was a meeting between Mr. Zuckerberg and Mr. Trump, which was arranged by Mr. Zuckerberg. Their relationship has been tense for the past ten years. Mr. Trump has accused Meta of unfairly limiting his and other conservatives’ presence on their social media platforms, and he has publicly criticized Mr. Zuckerberg for this.
According to sources who wished to remain anonymous, Mark Zuckerberg arrived in West Palm Beach, Florida on Tuesday evening and met with Donald Trump at his hotel and club, Mar-a-Lago, on Wednesday. The meeting was described as cordial, with Zuckerberg congratulating Trump on his presidential victory.
Following their meeting in the early afternoon, Mr. Trump and Mr. Zuckerberg arranged to have dinner together at Mr. Trump’s hotel later that same evening, according to sources.
A spokesperson for Meta expressed the significance of the current moment for innovation in the United States. They mentioned that Mark Zuckerberg was appreciative of the chance to have dinner with President Trump and discuss the upcoming administration with his team.
However, Mr. Zuckerberg is reaching out to the incoming administration as he tries to protect Meta, the company that owns Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, from facing any negative consequences. Meta has been a frequent target of criticism from conservatives in Washington, with some members of Congress accusing the platform of censoring conservative opinions. Additionally, former President Trump has even suggested that Mr. Zuckerberg should be arrested for allegedly working against him during the 2020 election.
