Coming to you live from Nantucket, Massachusetts.
On Thursday morning, the president and the first lady visited Massachusetts for their usual Thanksgiving activities. They handed out pumpkin pies to police officers, firefighters, and medics on Nantucket, and also spoke with members of the armed services. This is a tradition that the family has been doing since 1975.
During the rainy day on Thursday, President Biden visited the Nantucket fire station, interacting with the officers on duty and exchanging baseball caps with them. He seemed happy as he walked in with his grandson Beau by his side.
The president spoke about the current political atmosphere in the United States, encouraging Americans to stay true to their values, avoid pessimistic viewpoints, and be mindful of the news they consume.
After looking at recent public opinion polls showing that most Americans are worried about the country’s direction, Mr. Biden suggested that this could be due to a decrease in viewership for traditional news outlets and overly negative portrayals on television.
He mentioned that there could be a reason for it. When you watch TV, you usually see more bad news than good news.
The president expressed the importance of staying positive during uncertain times, but also acknowledged that President-elect Donald J. Trump may face challenges in the future. He foresaw that Congress might require Mr. Trump to adjust some of his plans, and also made subtle critiques of some of his successor’s recent proposals.
