Mark Zuckerberg had a meeting with President-elect Donald J. Trump on Wednesday in a rare in-person meeting. This meeting was part of Meta’s CEO’s efforts to build a good relationship with Mr. Trump.
Three individuals who are aware of the situation have stated that the meeting was arranged by Mr. Zuckerberg, who has had a difficult relationship with Mr. Trump for the last ten years. Mr. Trump has consistently claimed that Meta has unjustly restricted him and other conservatives on its social media platforms, and has publicly criticized Mr. Zuckerberg on social media and at public events.
Mark Zuckerberg traveled to West Palm Beach, Florida on Tuesday evening and met with Donald Trump at his hotel and club, Mar-a-Lago, the following day. The sources, who requested anonymity, stated that the conversation between the two men was primarily positive, with Zuckerberg offering congratulations to Trump for his election victory.
Following their meeting in the early afternoon, Mr. Trump and Mr. Zuckerberg arranged to have dinner at Mr. Trump’s hotel later that same evening, according to sources.
A representative from Meta expressed the significance of the current moment for American innovation. They mentioned that Mark was appreciative of the chance to have dinner with President Trump and discuss the upcoming administration with his team members.
Mr. Zuckerberg is reaching out to the incoming administration in an effort to protect Meta, the company that owns Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, from facing any negative consequences. Meta has been under fire from conservative politicians in Washington who accuse the platform of censoring conservative opinions. Former President Trump has even called for Mr. Zuckerberg to be arrested for allegedly working against him during the 2020 election.
