On Wednesday, Mark Zuckerberg had a meeting with President-elect Donald J. Trump in a rare in-person meeting. This meeting was part of Zuckerberg’s efforts to build a good relationship with Trump.
According to three individuals familiar with the situation, a meeting took place between Mr. Zuckerberg and Mr. Trump. Mr. Zuckerberg, who has had a difficult relationship with Mr. Trump for the last ten years, initiated the meeting. Mr. Trump has claimed that Meta has unfairly limited him and other conservatives on its social media platforms. He has criticized Mr. Zuckerberg on social media and at public appearances.
Mark Zuckerberg arrived in West Palm Beach, Florida on Tuesday evening and later met with Donald Trump at his hotel and club, Mar-a-Lago, on Wednesday. The sources who revealed this information did so anonymously as they were not allowed to talk about the meeting. During the meeting, Zuckerberg and Trump exchanged friendly greetings, with Zuckerberg congratulating Trump on his presidential victory.
Following a meeting in the early afternoon, Mr. Trump and Mr. Zuckerberg arranged to have dinner together at Mr. Trump’s hotel later that same evening, according to sources.
A spokesperson for Meta expressed the significance of the current moment for American innovation. They mentioned that Mark Zuckerberg was thankful for being invited to have dinner with President Trump and meet with his team to discuss the upcoming administration.
However, Mr. Zuckerberg is attempting to protect Meta, the company that owns Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, from facing any repercussions from the new administration. Conservatives in Washington have frequently criticized Meta for what they perceive as censorship of conservative opinions. Additionally, former President Trump has accused Mr. Zuckerberg of plotting against him during the 2020 election and has even suggested that he should be imprisoned as a result.
