President Biden has granted his son Hunter Biden a full and unconditional pardon. This decision comes shortly before President Biden’s term ends and President-elect Donald J. Trump takes office. Trump has been known for criticizing Hunter Biden’s legal and personal troubles over the years.

On Sunday night, President Biden decided to pardon his son Hunter, despite previously saying he wouldn’t. This pardon clears Hunter of any legal issues he may have faced, such as a federal conviction for purchasing a gun illegally and for committing tax evasion. This decision was made using the President’s authority to overlook and forgive these past offenses.

The White House released a statement from President Biden announcing that he has chosen to grant his son executive clemency for any crimes he may have committed between January 1, 2014, and December 1, 2024.

He explained that he chose to make the decision because he believed the accusations against Hunter were driven by political motives and intended to harm him politically.

Mr. Biden stated that the charges against his son, Hunter, were brought forward by his political opponents in Congress in an attempt to undermine his election campaign. He believes that anyone who examines the facts of Hunter’s cases would agree that he was targeted solely because he is his son, which he believes is unjust.

He stated that there has been a deliberate attempt to undermine Hunter, who has successfully maintained sobriety for over five years despite facing continuous attacks and unfair treatment. By targeting Hunter, they are also targeting him, and he believes this pattern of harassment will not end here. He emphasized that the situation has become intolerable.

A man who had built his presidency and long career on the promise of not interfering with the administration of justice experienced a significant change in perspective. In 2020, he advocated for the removal of former President Donald J. Trump to uphold the independence of America’s democracy, and continued to make the same argument in 2024.
