On Sunday night, President Biden decided to grant his son Hunter a complete pardon despite his previous statements indicating otherwise. This pardon absolves Hunter of any legal issues he may have faced, such as a federal gun conviction and charges of tax evasion. Biden utilized his presidential authority to dismiss these longstanding legal troubles.
The White House released a statement in which Mr. Biden announced his decision to grant clemency to his son for any offenses he may have committed between January 1, 2014, and December 1, 2024.
He explained that he decided to take action because he believed the accusations against Hunter were driven by political agendas and intended to damage his reputation in the political sphere.
In a statement, Mr. Biden claimed that the charges against his son, Hunter, were brought forth by his political opponents in Congress in an attempt to undermine his own campaign. He argued that anyone who examines the details of Hunter’s cases would see that he was targeted solely because of his relation to Mr. Biden, which he believes is unjust.
He stated that there has been an attempt to undermine Hunter, who has remained sober for five and a half years despite constant attacks and selective prosecution. The intention was to also undermine him, and he believes this pattern may continue. He expressed that he has had enough of these actions.
A man who had a long career in politics and whose presidency was known for its commitment to non-interference in justice, experienced a surprising change in attitude. In 2020 and again in 2024, he advocated for the removal of former President Donald J. Trump from office in order to uphold the independence of America’s democracy.
