Donald J. Trump, who will soon become President, stated on Sunday that he plans to appoint Massad Boulos, a Lebanese American businessman who is also the father of his daughter Tiffany’s husband, as a top advisor focusing on Arab and Middle Eastern matters.
Mr. Trump has now offered a position in his administration to a family member for the second time this weekend. This announcement came after he selected Charles Kushner, who is Ivanka’s father-in-law, to be the ambassador to France.
Mr. Trump made an announcement in which he did not mention the family relationship, but instead praised Mr. Boulos for his business expertise and the support he provided to his presidential campaign.
Mr. Trump praised Massad on social media, describing him as a successful lawyer and influential figure in the business world. Massad has significant experience on the international stage and has long supported Republican and Conservative values. He has played a crucial role in forming strong connections with the Arab American Community during the Campaign.
Prior to the recent election, Mr. Boulos had a significant behind-the-scenes role in the Trump campaign by reaching out to Arab American voters. The Republican strategists were counting on these voters to choose Trump over Biden due to their dissatisfaction with Biden’s stance on Israel. Despite Trump’s strong support for Israel during his first term, Mr. Boulos focused on garnering support for him in areas of Michigan with high Arab American and Muslim populations.
Due to his relationship with the Trump family, Mr. Boulos has acted as a kind of unofficial intermediary between Mr. Trump and leaders from the Middle East. In September, he had a meeting with Mahmoud Abbas, the head of the Palestinian Authority, during the United Nations General Assembly in New York. Additionally, he assisted in delivering a letter from Mr. Abbas to Mr. Trump in July, where Mr. Abbas expressed his well wishes to Mr. Trump following an assassination attempt.
