President-elect Donald J. Trump is collecting donations for his inauguration, with some contributions reaching up to $2 million, as shown by documents from fundraisers for the event.
An advertisement called "Trump Vance Inaugural Committee Benefits" details the advantages of contributing $1 million or raising $2 million for the event. Individuals who reach this exclusive level will receive up to six tickets to eight inaugural events taking place from January 17 to January 20.
Following a controversial election, donors and corporations often contribute significant amounts of money to the inaugural committees of presidents in order to show their support for the new administration and potentially gain influence. Donations to the Trump committee have no set limits, as it is organized as a political nonprofit for tax reasons, but any gifts exceeding $200 are reported to the Federal Election Commission.
Key events for top donors and fundraisers include a reception with selected members of the cabinet and a dinner with Vice President-elect JD Vance and his wife, Usha Vance, on January 18. Another highlight is an exclusive dinner with President Donald J. Trump and First Lady Melania Trump on January 19, considered the main event. Mrs. Trump had not confirmed her attendance at the inauguration events, but the materials indicate she plans to join Mr. Trump at a Sunday morning interfaith service.
On the 20th of January, major donors will be given six tickets each to attend the presidential inauguration ceremony.
The initial inaugural committee for Mr. Trump raised $107 million in 2016 and 2017, but faced scrutiny from federal prosecutors for potential illegal foreign donations. One donor received a 12-year prison sentence as a result. The current inaugural committee is now overseen by Steven Witkoff, a wealthy real estate developer who has donated almost $2 million to Mr. Trump’s political campaigns in the last ten years. Kelly Loeffler, a former Republican senator from Georgia, is also involved in leading the committee.
Donald Trump is still actively fundraising for his political endeavors. On December 19th, he will be the main attraction at a fundraising event held at his exclusive Mar-a-Lago club in Florida. The event is in support of a pro-Trump super PAC called MAGA Inc., and tickets are priced at $1 million per person, as reported by The New York Times.
