A man was given a 22-year prison sentence on Thursday for unlawfully entering a Colorado ranch owned by Michael R. Bloomberg in 2022 and abducting a housekeeper. Prosecutors stated that this was part of a plot to harm the media mogul and former mayor of New York City, but the plan was unsuccessful.

Joseph L. Beecher, a 51-year-old man from Craig, Colorado, was sentenced by Judge Alan B. Johnson of the United States District Court in Cheyenne, Wyoming. Beecher was found guilty in August of crimes such as kidnapping and using a firearm during a violent crime. In addition to his prison term, Beecher was also ordered to be on supervised release for five years.

Mr. Beecher, who had recently lost his job at the apartment complex where he was a resident, allegedly drove to Mr. Bloomberg’s ranch approximately 70 miles away on February 2, 2022. Prosecutors claim that he then forcibly entered the property by crashing his truck through the main gate.

According to prosecutors, Mr. Beecher abducted a housekeeper with a gun and made her drive for hundreds of miles before they arrived at a motel in Cheyenne, Wyoming, which is more than 230 miles away.

According to reports, a SWAT team apprehended Mr. Beecher and saved the housekeeper the next day. Mr. Beecher had allegedly threatened the housekeeper multiple times and made her share a bed with him against her will.

Prior to visiting Mr. Bloomberg’s ranch on February 2nd, officials stated that Mr. Beecher allegedly took two guns and ammunition from his boss and landlord’s residence.
