Firefighters in Southern California started to gain control over a fire that started in Malibu on Monday night and has burned over 4,000 acres, caused damage to multiple buildings, and led to the evacuation of thousands of people.
During the night, firefighters managed to control 7 percent of the Franklin fire despite facing strong winds on Tuesday, as reported by the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection. By Tuesday afternoon, the dry and windy weather had calmed down, giving firefighters a more favorable opportunity to manage the fire.
Officials decided to lift a red flag warning for over two million residents in Southern California due to the better conditions.
During a news conference on Wednesday morning, Chief Anthony C. Marrone from the Los Angeles County Fire Department stated that they were still evaluating the extent of the damage. Their initial assessments revealed that seven structures were completely destroyed and nine had sustained damage.
