The combined fundraising total for Trump, Biden, and Harris, including their main support groups, reached an impressive $4.7 billion. This amount was revealed in the latest official financial reports of the costly election campaign.

Theodore Schleifer provided coverage from Washington, while Albert Sun reported from New York.

Contributors collectively spent a remarkable $4.7 billion supporting the presidential candidates in the recent general election, donating this significant sum to the campaign funds of Donald J. Trump, Kamala Harris, Joseph R. Biden Jr., and their key affiliated organizations throughout the duration of the race.

The total amount of money raised for the general-election candidates was revealed on Thursday through the final campaign finance reports from the campaigns and their supporters. These reports included the funds raised from Oct. 17 to Nov. 25, which, when combined with previous federal filings, provided a comprehensive overview of the fundraising efforts.

Total campaign contributions for the current election cycle are being compared to those for the 2020 election. This includes funds raised by the campaigns themselves, joint fund-raising committees, and national parties. The comparison also takes into account contributions made through WinRed and ActBlue, but does not include donations to super PACs.

In the recent election, Democratic groups, including their super PACs, raised approximately $2.9 billion, while Republican groups raised about $1.8 billion. Despite this, President Trump showed, as he did in the previous election, that a campaign doesn’t need to spend the most money to win. Surprisingly, the super PACs supporting Trump actually raised more funds than those supporting Biden and Harris.

Between November 2022 and Election Day, Mr. Trump’s campaign and the Republican National Committee collected $1.2 billion, which marked the early start of his campaign. In addition to this, his main super PACs, including MAGA Inc., Right for America, Turnout for America, America PAC, and Preserve America, raised an extra $849 million during the same period.

The Biden-Harris campaign did not have to compete in a primary race, giving them more time to raise money for their campaign against Mr. Trump. Biden signed a fundraising agreement with the Democratic National Committee before Trump signed one with the R.N.C., allowing Democrats to receive larger donations. Democratic fundraising increased after Harris became the top candidate in the summer.

Harris’s campaign raised a larger amount of money compared to Trump’s campaign. However, Trump’s affiliated super PACs raised a larger sum of money than those associated with Harris.
