In a recent interview, Senator Laphonza Butler, a Democrat from California, discussed Joe Biden’s failure to keep a promise according to a supporter of Kamala Harris. This conversation took place during Butler’s last week in the Senate.

Laphonza Butler has only been a senator from California for approximately 15 months, but she has been a strong supporter of Vice President Kamala Harris for the past 15 years.
During the week, I had a conversation with Butler, who has been in a long partnership with Harris. They first met when Butler was a union leader in Los Angeles. This partnership gives Butler a unique viewpoint on why their party lost the presidential election and how they can work towards rebuilding.
Harris has not publicly discussed her reasons for losing the election. According to Butler, she believes part of the blame lies with President Biden for breaking his promise not to run for re-election. However, simply blaming Biden is not sufficient. Democrats need to focus on actively listening to others rather than just talking.
Governor Gavin Newsom selected Butler to take over the vacant U.S. Senate seat following the passing of Senator Dianne Feinstein in September 2023. Feinstein chose not to seek re-election, making this her final week in office. Representative Adam Schiff will be inaugurated as the new senator for the state on Monday.

LB: The American population desired a shift in leadership. They were seeking a candidate they believed embodied change. That could be the main reason behind their choice.
Was it a mistake for Biden to run for
When President Biden first took office, he had mentioned that he planned to be a transitional leader. Many people had this expectation of him. It might have been better for him to stick with that plan. Despite this, we cannot ignore the accomplishments of his presidency. Looking back, his time in office will be remembered as significant in my lifetime. However, it is important to uphold the expectations you set with the public.
