On Wednesday morning, Penelope Hegseth, the mother of Pete Hegseth, stated that her son has changed since 2018 when she sent an email accusing him of mistreating women and lacking morals and character.
During an appearance on "Fox & Friends," Mrs. Hegseth mentioned that Pete is a transformed individual who has been forgiven and redeemed.
"I hope that everyone, including our female senators, takes the time to truly understand who Pete is today. Listen to him with an open heart and hear the truth from him. It’s important to note that he does not mistreat women."
She made an appearance following the publication of an email she wrote while Mr. Hegseth was going through a difficult divorce with his second wife. In an interview with The Times on Friday, she stated that she did not stand by what she wrote in the email and had already apologized to her son in a subsequent email.
Following reports of alcohol abuse and financial mismanagement within nonprofit organizations, an article in The New Yorker highlighted these allegations. Additionally, Peter Hegseth was accused of rape by a woman at a political conference in 2017, although no charges were filed after an investigation. Hegseth’s lawyer, Timothy Parlatore, stated that the encounter was consensual.
The negative repercussions of the situation have put Mr. Hegseth’s potential appointment as head of the Defense Department in the upcoming Trump administration at risk. President-elect Donald J. Trump is reportedly exploring alternative candidates for the position.
