On Wednesday morning, Penelope Hegseth, the mother of Pete Hegseth, mentioned that her son has changed since 2018. She had previously sent an email accusing him of mistreating women and lacking integrity and moral character.

Mrs. Hegseth stated on "Fox & Friends" that Pete had undergone a transformation and was now a different person, having been forgiven and changed.

"I hope that people, especially our female senators, will take the time to understand who Pete is today. I encourage you to listen to him with an open heart and recognize the truth about Pete. It’s important to note that he treats women respectfully."

She made her public statement after The New York Times released an email she had written while Mr. Hegseth was going through a difficult divorce with his second wife. In an interview with The Times on Friday, she admitted that she did not stand by what she said in that email and had apologized to her son in a subsequent email.

Following reports of alcohol abuse and mismanagement within nonprofit organizations, a recent article in The New Yorker shed light on these allegations. Additionally, Mr. Hegseth is under scrutiny for a police complaint made by a woman accusing him of rape at a political conference in 2017. Despite no charges being filed after an investigation, Mr. Hegseth’s lawyer, Timothy Parlatore, maintains that the encounter was consensual.

The negative consequences from the situation have put Mr. Hegseth’s potential appointment to lead the Defense Department in the upcoming Trump administration at risk. It is rumored that President-elect Donald J. Trump is considering different candidates for the position.
