On Wednesday morning, Penelope Hegseth, the mother of Pete Hegseth, stated that her son has changed since 2018. At that time, she had sent an email accusing him of mistreating women regularly and lacking integrity and moral character.

During an interview on "Fox & Friends," Mrs. Hegseth stated that Pete has transformed into a completely different individual. She mentioned that he has been redeemed, forgiven, and undergone a significant change.

"I really hope that people, especially our female senators, will take the time to understand who Pete is today. Please listen to him with an open heart and see the truth about Pete," she expressed, emphasizing that Pete does not mistreat women.

She showed up after The New York Times released an email she sent while Mr. Hegseth was going through a difficult divorce from his second wife. In an interview with The Times on Friday, she admitted that she didn’t mean what she said in that email and that she had apologized to her son in a subsequent email.

Additionally, recent allegations of alcohol abuse and mismanagement within nonprofit organizations were reported in an article by The New Yorker this week. Mr. Hegseth has also been accused of rape by a woman at a political conference in 2017, although no charges were filed after an investigation. Mr. Hegseth’s lawyer has stated that the encounter was consensual.

The negative consequences have put Mr. Hegseth’s potential role as leader of the Defense Department in the upcoming Trump administration at risk. It has been reported that President-elect Donald J. Trump is considering different candidates for the position.
