On Wednesday morning, Penelope Hegseth, the mother of Pete Hegseth, stated that her son has changed since 2018 when she sent an email accusing him of mistreating women and lacking good character and decency.
During an interview on "Fox & Friends," Mrs. Hegseth mentioned that Pete has undergone a transformation and is now a different person. She stated that he has been redeemed, forgiven, and changed.
"I just want people, especially female senators, to take the time to understand who Pete is today. Listen to him with an open heart and hear the truth about him," she expressed. She also emphasized that Pete does not mistreat women.
She made an appearance following the publication of an email she wrote while Mr. Hegseth was going through a difficult divorce from his second wife. In an interview with The Times on Friday, she admitted that she did not stand by what she said in the email and had apologized to her son in a subsequent email.
Following claims of alcohol abuse and mismanagement within nonprofit organizations, an article in The New Yorker highlighted these issues. In addition, there were accusations of sexual assault against Mr. Hegseth at a political conference in 2017. However, no charges were filed after an investigation, with Mr. Hegseth’s lawyer stating that the encounter was consensual.
The negative consequences from the situation have put Mr. Hegseth’s potential to head the Defense Department in the upcoming Trump administration at risk. It is reported that President-elect Donald J. Trump is considering different candidates for the position instead.
