Pete Hegseth’s mother went on a Fox show to speak positively about her son’s character, stating that he has undergone a positive transformation. She discussed her son, who is President-elect Donald J. Trump’s pick for defense secretary, on the same network where he used to work.

On Wednesday morning, Penelope Hegseth, the mother of Pete Hegseth, stated that her son had changed since 2018 when she sent an email alleging that he mistreated women and had a lack of decency and character.

Mrs. Hegseth stated on "Fox & Friends" that Pete has undergone a transformation and is now a different person, having been forgiven and changed.

"I really hope that today people will take the time to understand who Pete really is, especially our female senators. I ask that you listen to him, listen with empathy to the truth about Pete," she expressed. She also mentioned, "He does not mistreat women."

She made an appearance following the publication of an email she wrote while Mr. Hegseth was going through a difficult divorce from his second wife. In an interview with The Times on Friday, she stated that she did not stand by what she said in the email and had apologized to her son in a subsequent email.

Following reports of alcohol abuse and mismanagement in nonprofit organizations, a recent article in The New Yorker shed light on these allegations. In addition, there were accusations of rape against Mr. Hegseth at a political conference in 2017, although no charges were filed after an investigation. Mr. Hegseth’s lawyer claimed that the encounter was consensual.

The negative consequences of the situation have put Mr. Hegseth’s potential appointment as head of the Defense Department in the upcoming Trump administration at risk. It is rumored that President-elect Donald J. Trump is considering different candidates for the position.
