Pete Hegseth’s mother went on a Fox show to speak positively about her son’s character, stating that he has transformed for the better. She talked about her son, who is the defense secretary pick for President-elect Donald J. Trump, on the same network where he used to work.

Penelope Hegseth, the mother of Pete Hegseth, stated on Wednesday morning that her son has changed since 2018 when she sent an email accusing him of regularly mistreating women and displaying a lack of morals and integrity.

During an appearance on "Fox & Friends," Mrs. Hegseth mentioned that Pete has transformed into a new individual who has been forgiven and redeemed.

"I hope that everyone, especially our female senators, will take the time to understand who Pete is today. I ask that you listen to him with an open heart and see the truth about Pete. He does not mistreat women."

She made an appearance after The New York Times released an email she had written while Mr. Hegseth was going through a difficult divorce from his second wife. In an interview with The Times on Friday, she stated that she did not stand by what she had said in the email and had apologized to her son in a subsequent email.

Following reports of alcohol abuse and mismanagement of nonprofit organizations in an article in The New Yorker this week, there were further allegations against Mr. Hegseth. A woman claimed he raped her at a political conference in 2017, but no charges were filed after an investigation. Mr. Hegseth’s lawyer stated that the encounter was consensual.

The negative consequences of the situation have put Mr. Hegseth’s potential to lead the Defense Department in the upcoming Trump administration at risk. It is reported that President-elect Donald J. Trump is considering different candidates for the position.
