On Wednesday morning, Penelope Hegseth commented that her son Pete Hegseth has changed since 2018, when she sent an email accusing him of mistreating women and lacking morality and integrity.

During an appearance on "Fox & Friends," Mrs. Hegseth mentioned that Pete has undergone significant personal growth and transformation, being forgiven and redeemed for past actions.

"I really hope that today people will take the time to learn about Pete, particularly our female senators. I hope that you will listen to him with an open heart and hear the truth from Pete," she expressed. She also mentioned, "He does not mistreat women."

She made an appearance after The New York Times released an email she wrote while Mr. Hegseth was going through a difficult divorce from his second wife. In an interview with The Times on Friday, she stated that she did not stand by what she said in the email and had since apologized to her son in a subsequent email.

Following accusations of alcohol abuse and mismanagement of nonprofit organizations, highlighted in a recent article from The New Yorker, Mr. Hegseth has also been faced with allegations of rape from a woman who claimed the incident occurred at a political conference in 2017. Although no charges were filed after an investigation, Mr. Hegseth’s lawyer asserts that the encounter was consensual.

The negative consequences of the situation have put Mr. Hegseth’s potential to head the Defense Department in the upcoming Trump administration at risk. President-elect Donald J. Trump is reportedly considering different candidates for the position.
