Penelope Hegseth, the mother of Pete Hegseth, stated on Wednesday morning that her son has undergone changes since 2018. She sent an email at that time accusing him of mistreating women regularly and lacking moral values and integrity.

During an interview on "Fox & Friends," Mrs. Hegseth mentioned that Pete has transformed into a new individual, having been redeemed, forgiven, and changed.

"I hope that people, especially our female senators, take the time to truly understand who Pete is today. I urge you to listen to him with an open heart and recognize the truth about Pete. He is not someone who mistreats women."

She made an appearance following The New York Times releasing an email she had written while Mr. Hegseth was going through a difficult divorce with his second wife. In an interview with The Times on Friday, she stated that she did not stand by what she said in that email and had apologized to her son in a subsequent email.

Following reports of alcohol abuse and mismanagement of nonprofit organizations in an article by The New Yorker, there have been further allegations against Mr. Hegseth. A woman accused him of rape at a political conference in 2017, but after an investigation, no charges were filed. Mr. Hegseth’s lawyer stated that the encounter was consensual.

The negative consequences of the situation have put Mr. Hegseth’s opportunities to head the Defense Department in the upcoming Trump administration at risk. It is reported that President-elect Donald J. Trump is considering alternative candidates for the position.
