On Wednesday morning, Penelope Hegseth, the mother of Pete Hegseth, stated that her son has changed since 2018. She previously sent an email in which she accused him of regularly mistreating women and lacking integrity and moral values.

During an interview on "Fox & Friends," Mrs. Hegseth mentioned that Pete has transformed into a new individual, having been redeemed, forgiven, and changed.

"I hope that people, particularly our female senators, take the time to truly get to know Pete today and listen to him with an open heart. It is important to hear the truth about Pete and realize that he does not mistreat women."

She made an appearance after The New York Times released an email she had written while Mr. Hegseth was going through a difficult divorce from his second wife. In an interview with The Times on Friday, she stated that she did not stand by what she had said in the email and had apologized to her son in a subsequent email.

Following allegations of alcohol abuse and mismanagement of nonprofit organizations reported in The New Yorker this week, Mr. Hegseth has also been accused of rape at a political conference in 2017. Despite an investigation that led to no charges, Mr. Hegseth’s lawyer claims the encounter was consensual.

The negative consequences of the situation have put Mr. Hegseth’s potential appointment as the head of the Defense Department in the upcoming Trump administration at risk. It is reported that President-elect Donald J. Trump is considering different candidates for the position.
