In California’s Central Valley, a former Democratic state lawmaker won against the current Republican representative on Tuesday, flipping the seat in the last House race of 2024 to be determined. This information was reported by The Associated Press.

Even though Adam Gray, the challenger, defeated the incumbent U.S. Representative John Duarte, the Republicans will still have a slight majority in the House once the next Congress begins. The Republicans will hold 220 seats, while the Democrats will have 215.

Before The Associated Press declared the winner, Mr. Duarte, who was behind by 187 votes in a competition with over 210,000 votes, admitted defeat. This information was shared by Duane Dichiara, a representative for Mr. Duarte’s campaign.

Mr. Gray announced that he had won on Tuesday, two days before California counties had to officially confirm their election results.

Mr. Gray stated in a press release on X that the district is prepared for leadership that is independent, accountable, and prioritizes the people of the Valley over partisan politics.

Mr. Gray, a previous member of the California State Assembly, achieved victory in the 13th Congressional District, overturning the results from 2022. Two years ago, Mr. Duarte had won by a very narrow margin in what was one of the closest House races.
