On Tuesday, a Democrat who previously served as a state lawmaker won against the current Republican representative in California’s Central Valley. This victory marked the final House race of 2024 to be determined. This information was reported by The Associated Press.

Even though Adam Gray, the challenger, won against the incumbent U.S. Representative John Duarte, the Republicans will still have a slight majority in the House when the next Congress meets. There will be 220 seats held by Republicans and 215 seats held by Democrats.

Mr. Duarte accepted defeat in a close race with a difference of 187 votes out of over 210,000 ballots cast, according to Duane Dichiara, a spokesman for the campaign. Duarte conceded just before The A.P. officially announced the results.

Before the deadline for counties in California to certify their results, Mr. Gray claimed victory on Tuesday, two days ahead of schedule.

Mr. Gray stated in a press release on X that the district is prepared for leadership that is both independent and accountable, prioritizing the well-being of the Valley’s residents over political affiliations.

In the recent election, Mr. Gray, a previous California State Assembly member, won in the 13th Congressional District, overturning the results from 2022. Two years earlier, Mr. Duarte had won by a very small margin in a House race.
