In California’s Central Valley, a former Democratic state legislator won against the current Republican representative to secure a seat in the House of Representatives for the 2024 term. This race was the final one to be decided, as reported by The Associated Press.

Even though Adam Gray defeated U.S. Representative John Duarte, the Republicans will still have a slight majority in the House when the next Congress meets. The Republicans will hold 220 seats, while the Democrats will have 215.

According to Duane Dichiara, a spokesperson for the campaign, Mr. Duarte acknowledged his defeat in the election before The Associated Press announced the final results. Despite a close margin of 187 votes in a total of over 210,000 ballots cast, Mr. Duarte conceded the race.

Mr. Gray announced that he had won before the deadline for California counties to officially declare their results.

In a statement on X, Mr. Gray expressed that the final results show that the district is prepared for leadership that is both independent and accountable, prioritizing the needs of the Valley’s residents over political party affiliations.

In the recent election, Mr. Gray, who previously served in the California State Assembly, achieved victory in the 13th Congressional District. This outcome was different from the results in 2022, when Mr. Duarte won by a very small margin in the same district.
