In California’s Central Valley, a former Democratic state legislator won against the Republican incumbent on Tuesday, flipping a seat in the House that was the final race to be decided in the 2024 election. This information comes from The Associated Press.

Even though Adam Gray defeated U.S. Representative John Duarte, the Republicans will still have a slight majority in the House with 220 seats compared to the Democrats’ 215 seats when the next Congress meets.

Mr. Duarte, who was behind by 187 votes in an election with over 210,000 votes cast, admitted defeat shortly before The Associated Press made their announcement, according to Duane Dichiara, a spokesperson for the campaign.

On Tuesday, Mr. Gray announced that he had won before the deadline for California counties to finalize their election results.

Mr. Gray stated in a press release on X that the final results show that the district is in need of a leader who prioritizes the people of the Valley over political parties.

Mr. Gray, a politician who previously served in the California State Assembly, achieved a surprising win in the 13th Congressional District, overturning the previous election results from 2022. In that election, Mr. Duarte had won by a narrow margin, making it one of the closest House races at the time.
