On Tuesday, a former Democratic state legislator won against the current Republican representative in California’s Central Valley, flipping a seat in the 2024 House race that was the final one to be decided. This information was reported by The Associated Press.

Even though Adam Gray defeated U.S. Representative John Duarte in the election, the Republicans will still have a slight majority in the House of Representatives with 220 seats compared to the Democrats’ 215 seats when the next Congress starts.

Before The A.P. declared the winner, Mr. Duarte, who was behind by 187 votes in a competition with over 210,000 votes, admitted defeat. This was announced by Duane Dichiara, a spokesperson for the campaign.

Mr. Gray announced that he had won before the deadline for counties in California to officially confirm their election results, which was two days away.

In a statement released on X, Mr. Gray expressed that the district is prepared for leadership that prioritizes the people of the Valley over political affiliations and is committed to being transparent and responsible.

Mr. Gray, who previously served in the California State Assembly, achieved victory in the 13th Congressional District, overturning the results from 2022. In the previous election, Mr. Duarte had won by a very small margin, making it one of the closest House race outcomes.
