In California’s Central Valley, a Democratic candidate who used to be a state lawmaker won against the current Republican representative on Tuesday. This victory resulted in flipping the seat to the Democratic party and was the final House race of 2024 to be officially decided, as reported by The Associated Press.

Even though Adam Gray won against U.S. Representative John Duarte, the Republicans will still have a slight majority in the House with 220 seats compared to the Democrats’ 215 seats in the upcoming Congress.

Before The A.P. declared the winner, Mr. Duarte, who was behind by 187 votes in an election with over 210,000 ballots, accepted defeat, according to Duane Dichiara, a spokesperson for the campaign.

Before the deadline for counties in California to certify their results, Mr. Gray announced his victory on Tuesday, two days ahead of schedule.

In a statement released on X, Mr. Gray expressed that the final results show that the district is prepared for leadership that prioritizes the people of the Valley over political affiliations. He emphasized the importance of independent and responsible leadership.

Mr. Gray, who used to be part of the California State Assembly, achieved a win in the 13th Congressional District that went against the results from 2022. In the previous election, Mr. Duarte won in the district by a very small margin, making it one of the closest House races.
